Digital marketing in Modinagar: what a digital marketing company should actually do for you

What digital marketing means for a shop, clinic or school in Modinagar, which channels matter first, what it costs and how to judge an agency's work.

Ask ten business owners on Delhi-Meerut Road what "digital marketing" means and you will get ten answers. For one it is a Facebook page. For another it is the boy who boosts posts for ₹500. For a third it is a word on a salesman's visiting card, right before a monthly fee that never seems to bring a single customer.

We run a digital marketing company on Niwari Road in Modinagar, so we have heard all of these. This post is our attempt to explain, in plain words, what digital marketing actually is for a local business, what it should cost, which parts matter first, and how you can tell whether the people doing it for you know what they are doing.

What digital marketing means for a local business

Strip away the jargon and digital marketing is three jobs:

  1. Be findable. When someone in Modinagar searches for what you sell, your business should appear, with correct timings, a working phone number and recent photos.
  2. Be believable. When they look you up, what they find should convince them you are real, active and good at what you do. Reviews, real photos, a clean Instagram, a website that loads.
  3. Stay remembered. Most people do not buy the first time they see you. Regular posts, reels, WhatsApp updates and the occasional offer keep you in their head until they are ready.

Everything else (SEO, SMM, PPC, all the three-letter words) is a tool for one of those three jobs. If an agency cannot tell you which job a task is doing, it is probably not doing much.

The channels, in the order most local businesses need them

Not every business needs every channel. A coaching centre and a hardware wholesaler need very different things. But for most shops, clinics, schools, salons and restaurants around Modinagar, Muradnagar and Ghaziabad, this order works.

1. Google Business Profile

This is the listing that shows up on Google Maps and on the right side of search results. For a local business it is often the single most valuable thing online, and it is free. When someone types "dentist near me" or "sweet shop Modinagar", the businesses that appear in the map pack get most of the calls.

A well-kept profile has the correct category, accurate hours (including festival days), at least 20 to 30 real photos, regular updates and a steady stream of reviews with replies from the owner. We have a full guide on Google Business Profile tips, and if you would rather hand it over, that is our Google Business Profile management service.

2. WhatsApp Business

Your customers already message you on WhatsApp. The Business app adds a catalogue, quick replies, labels and an away message. It costs nothing and it turns a personal number into something closer to a shop counter. Our WhatsApp Business setup guide walks through it.

3. Instagram and Facebook

This is where people discover you when they are not searching for anything. A family scrolling at night sees your new Diwali hampers. A college student sees the new café that opened near the station. Social media is less about selling directly and more about being known and liked, so that when the need comes, your name comes first.

What works locally is rarely polished. Real faces from your shop, short reels of the product being made or used, before-and-after work, customer moments (with permission), and offers that are genuinely good. Posting three to four times a week with one or two reels does more than daily posts nobody watches.

4. A website

Many small businesses can survive for a while on Google Business and Instagram. But a website is the only place online you fully own. It is where you send people from ads, visiting cards and hoardings, and it can rank for searches like "school in Modinagar" or "furniture shop Meerut". If you are deciding whether to build one, read what a website costs in India first.

5. Paid ads

Ads come last on this list on purpose. Ads amplify what you already have. If your Google profile has six reviews and your Instagram has not been updated since March, ads will send people to a place that does not convince them. Fix the first four, then spend on ads with a clear offer and a clear way to respond.

What digital marketing should cost

Prices vary a lot, and the cheapest option is usually expensive in the end. As a rough guide for a local business:

  • Doing it yourself: free, but it costs time. Two to four hours a week to post, reply and keep your Google profile current.
  • A freelancer: usually a fixed monthly fee for a set number of posts. It can be good value, but quality and reliability depend entirely on one person.
  • An agency: usually starts higher, but should include planning, design, posting, reporting and someone accountable when things go wrong.
  • Ad spend: separate from the agency fee, always. Anyone who bundles "₹10,000 including ads" is either spending very little on ads or hiding it.

If you only need a few designs, one-off work is fine. At ArcBig a single social media post is ₹499, a festival creative is ₹699 and a promotional video is ₹4,999, all plus GST. Monthly plans are quoted after a free audit, because a clinic that needs eight posts a month should not pay the same as a showroom that needs twenty. How to judge a digital marketing company

You do not need to understand algorithms to tell good work from bad. Ask these questions.

Can I see work for a business like mine? Not a portfolio of mockups. Live Instagram pages and Google profiles of real clients, ideally local ones you can check yourself.

Who owns the accounts? Your Facebook page, Instagram, Google profile, website domain and ad account should be in your name, with the agency added as a manager. If an agency creates everything under its own login, you lose it all when you leave.

What will I see every month? A good report fits on one page: what was posted, what was spent, how many people called, messaged, asked for directions or filled a form. Likes and reach are fine to include, but they are not the point.

Who approves the content? You should see posts before they go live, especially anything with prices, offers or your staff's faces. We built our client portal around exactly this. Every post waits for your approval before it is published.

What happens if I want to stop? A fair agency has a short notice period and hands everything back. Long lock-in contracts usually mean the agency does not expect you to stay because of results.

Our longer checklist on how to choose a social media agency has twelve questions worth asking in the first meeting.

Warning signs

Some patterns come up again and again when owners tell us about past agencies:

  • Guaranteed rankings or followers. Nobody can guarantee a position on Google. Bought followers do not buy anything.
  • Only vanity numbers in reports. "Reach increased 300%" means nothing if the phone did not ring.
  • The same template for everyone. If your posts look identical to the gym next door and the jeweller across the road, nobody is thinking about your customers.
  • No local understanding. Content for Modinagar should know about the Kanwar Yatra, wedding season, exam months and Diwali shopping in the market. Generic "Happy Monday" posts do not.
  • Silence. If you have to chase them for updates, that is the service you are paying for.

What you can start this week on your own

Even if you never hire anyone, a few hours this week will put you ahead of most businesses in town:

  1. Search your business name on Google and fix anything wrong on your profile: hours, phone, category, photos.
  2. Ask your five happiest regular customers for a Google review, and send them the direct link.
  3. Install WhatsApp Business, add a catalogue of your ten most popular products or services, and set an away message.
  4. Post one short reel on Instagram showing your shop, your team or your product being made. Do not overthink it.
  5. Write down the three questions customers ask most often. Those are your next three posts.

Frequently asked questions

What does a digital marketing company do?

It helps customers find you online, trust you when they check, and remember you until they are ready to buy. For a local business that usually means managing your Google Business Profile, social media, reels, website and sometimes ads, with a monthly report on calls, messages and enquiries.

How much does digital marketing cost for a small business in Modinagar?

It depends on how much content you need and which channels. Freelancers are usually cheaper; agencies usually cost more but include planning, design, posting and reporting. Ad spend is always separate. One-off designs at ArcBig start from ₹299 plus GST, and monthly plans are quoted after a free audit.

Which is more important, Google or Instagram?

For most local businesses, Google comes first because people searching on Google already want to buy. Instagram builds familiarity and trust over time. Ideally you use both, starting with a complete Google Business Profile.

How long does digital marketing take to show results?

A cleaned-up Google profile and a review drive can show more calls within weeks. Social media usually takes two to three months of consistent posting to build momentum. Website rankings for competitive searches can take several months.

Do I need a website if I have Instagram?

Not always on day one, but it helps. A website is the only online space you fully own, it can rank on Google for local searches, and it gives ads, hoardings and visiting cards somewhere reliable to send people.
