Video editing for business reels: what it involves, what it costs, and how to brief an editor

What professional video editing for business reels involves, what affects the cost in India, and how to shoot and brief so your editor can do great work.

Short answer: professional video editing turns raw phone or camera footage into a short video that people watch to the end. That means choosing the strongest moments, cutting to a hook in the first second, adding captions, music, sound and branding, and exporting in the right vertical format. Cost depends mostly on length, how much footage there is, and how much scripting, graphics and revision you need. Good footage and a clear brief bring the cost down more than anything else.

Most of the video we edit at Arcbig is for local businesses: restaurants, clinics, schools, showrooms, gyms and manufacturers. Very few of them have a film crew. They have a phone, a busy day and a feeling that their reels "do not look like the ones that go viral". This guide explains what an editor actually does, what drives the price, and how you can get better results from every rupee you spend.

Why does editing matter so much for business video?

Short vertical video is now where most attention is. YouTube's CEO said in June 2025 that YouTube Shorts averages 200 billion daily views, and Instagram extended Reels to up to three minutes in January 2025. That volume cuts both ways: there is a huge audience, and a huge amount of competition for every second of it.

The same footage can perform completely differently depending on the edit. Start with the logo and a slow pan of the shop, and most people will scroll past. Start with the moment the sizzling dish lands on the table, the before-and-after reveal, or a question your customer is already asking, and they stay. Editing decides which version they see.

What does a video editor actually do?

For a typical business reel, editing covers:

  • Selecting footage: going through all your clips and choosing the few seconds that are actually interesting.
  • Structure and hook: putting the most compelling moment first, then building the story: problem, process, result, call to action.
  • Cutting for pace: removing pauses, repeated takes and dead air. Short videos usually change shot every one to three seconds.
  • Captions and on-screen text: many people watch with the sound off, so captions in Hindi, English or both are essential. Text must sit inside the safe area so it is not cut off on different phones.
  • Music and sound: licensed music, sound effects and clean audio levels so the voice is clear.
  • Colour and exposure: making phone footage look consistent, bright and true to the product's real colour, which matters a lot for food, fashion and paint.
  • Branding: logo, brand colours, a consistent end card with your phone number or handle.
  • Export: vertical 9:16 for Reels and Shorts, square or horizontal versions if needed, and a cover image that looks good on your profile grid.

What kinds of business videos are worth editing professionally?

Not every story needs a professional edit. These usually do:

  • Promotional videos for a launch, a new branch, an offer or a festival campaign.
  • Product videos showing the product in use, from several angles.
  • Process and behind-the-scenes videos: how sweets are made, how a sofa is upholstered, how a lab sample is processed.
  • Before-and-after videos for salons, clinics, interiors, car detailing and repairs.
  • Customer testimonials: a real customer talking for 20 to 40 seconds, edited for clarity.
  • Ad creatives: two or three versions of the same video with different hooks, so the ads system can find the one that works. Our guide on how to advertise your business on social media explains why.

Quick daily stories and casual updates are usually fine to post yourself, straight from the phone.

What affects the cost of video editing in India?

Prices vary widely between freelancers, studios and agencies, but the same factors drive the cost everywhere:

FactorWhy it changes the price
Final lengthA 60-second edit takes longer than a 15-second one
Amount of raw footageTwo hours of clips takes far longer to review than ten minutes
Scripting and planningWriting a hook, script and shot list is separate creative work
Graphics and animationAnimated text, product callouts and motion graphics add hours
Voice-overRecording or generating a clean voice-over, in Hindi or English
Music licensingLicensed tracks are safer than trending audio for ads
Versions and formatsExtra cuts, aspect ratios or languages for the same video
RevisionsEach round of changes takes time; agree the number in advance

For reference, at Arcbig a promotional video is ₹4,999 and a reel cover is ₹399, both plus GST, and regular monthly reel packages are quoted after a short call, because a gym that wants twelve reels a month needs a different plan from a showroom that wants two.

How should you shoot footage so the edit turns out well?

Most quality problems are fixed before the edit, not during it. If you are shooting on a phone:

  1. Hold the phone vertically for Reels and Shorts.
  2. Clean the lens. It sounds obvious, and it is the most common problem we see.
  3. Use daylight or bright, even indoor light. Avoid shooting against a bright window.
  4. Shoot more than you need. Several short clips of five to ten seconds each, from different angles: wide, close-up, hands, face, product.
  5. Keep it steady. Lean on a counter, use both hands, or buy a basic tripod.
  6. Record clean audio. For talking videos, stand close to the phone in a quiet room, or use a small clip-on microphone.
  7. Capture the reveal. The finished dish, the final look, the happy customer. Editors cannot create a moment that was not filmed.

How do you brief a video editor?

A good brief saves at least one round of changes. Include:

  • The goal: awareness, enquiries, footfall for an offer, or an ad.
  • The one message: what should a viewer remember?
  • The audience and language: for example, parents in Modinagar, in Hindi with English captions.
  • The hook idea: the first line or first visual. Our list of reel hooks that work is a good starting point.
  • Must-include details: offer, price, dates, address, phone number.
  • References: two or three reels you like, and one you do not.
  • Length, formats and deadline.

How long does editing take?

A simple 15 to 30 second reel from good footage can often be turned around within a day or two. A scripted promotional video with graphics, voice-over and a couple of revision rounds usually takes several days. Festival campaigns need planning further ahead, because every business wants its Diwali video in the same week.

What mistakes make business videos underperform?

  • Starting with the logo instead of the most interesting moment.
  • No captions, so silent viewers learn nothing.
  • Text placed too close to the edges, where it gets hidden by the app's buttons or cut off.
  • Too long for the idea. If it can be said in 20 seconds, do not make it 60.
  • Copyrighted music in ads, which can get the ad rejected or muted.
  • No clear next step at the end: call, WhatsApp, visit or book.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in professional video editing for business?

Selecting the strongest footage, structuring the video around a hook, cutting for pace, adding captions, music, sound and branding, correcting colour, and exporting in the right formats for Reels, Shorts or ads.

How much does video editing cost for a business reel in India?

It depends on length, amount of footage, scripting, graphics, voice-over and revisions. At Arcbig a promotional video is ₹4,999 plus GST, and monthly reel packages are quoted based on how many videos you need.

Can I shoot business videos on my phone?

Yes. Modern phones are good enough for most business reels if you shoot vertically, use good light, keep the phone steady, record clear audio and capture several short clips from different angles.

How long should a business reel be?

Long enough to make one point well. Many business reels work best at 15 to 45 seconds, though Instagram now allows Reels of up to three minutes for stories that need more time.

For organic posts, trending audio can help reach. For ads, use properly licensed music, because copyrighted tracks can get an ad muted or rejected.
